The word yoga means ‘union’ in Sanskrit language, Therefore a yoga practice aims to unite the body and mind bringing stillness & calm. Yoga is not about how flexible you are but combines both strength & stretching to ease the body of stress, tension & to reunite the mind & body often after a busy day.
There are many forms of yoga, however this class will focus on the physical movement through a series Vinyasa style postures whilst bringing stillness with Hatha yoga and yoga breathing.
Don’t be fooled into thinking it’s easy or ‘just a bunch of stretches’ as during each class you will stimulate your circulation along with your respiratory and muscular systems, which over time, can lead to increased levels of physical and mental fitness. With regular practice you will find that you feel stronger, more toned and leaner. Combine this with your usual exercise of walking, running, cycling or boxing, for example, and you will find that the yoga helps improve endurance, helping you in other forms of exercise.
The class is suitable for beginners and those who have practised yoga before as each posture can be adapted to suit levels of ability and personal restrictions. Breathing techniques are used within the classes which provide a calming effect on the nervous system, so therefore help to reduce the effects of stress and anxiety, whilst increasing levels of relaxation within the mind and body.
It’s advised to bring water to sip, wear comfortable clothing and bring a sweat shirt for the relaxation. Mats will be provided but I have a limited number so if you have one, please bring it.
So who fancies unwinding after a hectic week? Just in time to relax for the weekend!
